The Different Types of Solar Panels for Your Home

Did you know that there were more than 2 million solar power installations in the USA?

Thanks to improvements in technology, solar power is now a renewable and cheap source of energy.

If you are considering investing in solar power, what do you need to know? There are many types of solar panels on the market. Which model will work best for you?

Why not read on to find out more?

Polycrystalline Solar Panels

Professional solar companies will be able to help you to evaluate which technology will work best for you. However, in general, they will start by discussing polycrystalline solar panels.

These are relatively new as solar technology but are becoming more and more popular.

Polycrystalline cells are composed of silicon fragments that are melted together. After cooling, technicians will slice them thinly into solar wafers. These cooled wafers are then combined to form the final panel.

These cells appear blue because of how the sunlight reflects from them. If a client wishes, they can choose the specific color of the framing to match their own home.

Monocrystalline Solar Panels

Monocrystalline solar panels are the oldest type of solar panel available. This means that they are also the most highly developed.

Each solar panel is made up of about 40 individual solar cells. Each cell is made from pure silicon. Like the polycrystal cells, the silicon is melted at high temperatures. However, this method requires that technicians remove the silicon very slowly from the heat. This gives time for the out shell of the cell to cool and harden.

Technicians will then slice the ingot into wafers, and these will form the basis for the solar panel.

Unlike polycrystalline panels, these solar cells will appear as blue in the sunlight. Within each frame, there are gaps between each cell.

Thin-Film Solar Panels

Thin film technology is one of the latest developments in solar cell technology. One revolutionary change is that they are not all made from silicon, unlike the previous options.

The cells can be made from a number of materials, including cadmium telluride and Copper Indium Gallium Selenide. Essentially these materials, are placed between two layers of conductive materials that will react to give the solar charge needed.

These materials are then placed between layers of glass for protection. These layers are approximately 350 times thinner than the previous silicon-based options. They come with a black or blue finish depending on the materials used in their construction.

The Different Types of Solar Panels and Much More

In 2020 solar power is not only a green, renewable source of energy. It is also a recognized way of acquiring low-cost energy. The key is to work out which type of panel will benefit you the most.

With so many types of solar panels available, there are options for every type of dwelling and business premises.
